La Petite Lucette

Le nom évoque sa proximité avec le Clos-Lucé, la maison de Léonard de Vinci : elle est située à seulement 100 mètres de son entrée. Modeste maison, elle est complètement à l'écart de la ville et du bruit et donne sur un jardin d'où l'on n'entend que le chant des oiseaux.

Nous sommes 2 dans l'aventure : Randy et moi. Randy est un ancien hôte américain tombé amoureux d'Amboise lors de son premier séjour à la Porte Bleue et revenu chaque été depuis 9 ans. Il s'est pris à rêver d'un pied à terre ici et nous avons cherché ensemble. Lorsque j'ai découvert cette petite maison, je lui ai tout naturellement proposé de partager le projet. 

Si j'ai craqué pour cette maison que nous cherchions depuis 18 mois, c'est parce qu'elle a des atouts incroyables : toute simple (cuisine, séjour, chambre et salle de bain sur 44 m2), elle a une petite cour cachée à l'arrière, et aussi une autre vieille maison que nous avons rénovée aussi, avec son magnifique troglo qui s'enfonce dans le coteau. On y trouve la fraîcheur en été, la douceur en hiver, la couleur du tuffeau beige, une voûte à l'arrondi parfait.

L'ensemble représente peut-être 1000 ans de construction dans cette région, des siècles concentrés sur quelques mètres carrés... Toute l'histoire des hommes et de leur habitat en Vallée de Loire.

In summer 2013, my son and I visited France and had the good fortune to decide to stay at La Porte Bleue with Chantal as our host. I was taken by her ability to run the gîtes and make a living. It seemed like something I would be interested in doing after I retired from college teaching. We returned to Amboise the next summer and stayed with Chantal again and I told her I was checking out real estate listings in Amboise, just for fun.

She took it seriously and in January of 2015 she called to tell me she had found the perfect house for me to buy! The problem was that I wasn’t retired and didn’t have any money for it! That didn’t stop Chantal and she managed to raise the money to buy the house and we became partners in La Petite Lucette.

I returned, yet again, to Amboise in July of 2015 and we began the renovation of the nicest little house you could ask for. We decided that we needed to do it right so we basically destroyed everything inside: the walls, the floors, the cabinets, the bathroom, even the toilet is being relocated. 

Since then, Chantal has worked non-stop on the house getting it ready for renting in June of 2016. She has done the bulk of the work and the beautiful tile flooring you’ll see inside is her handiwork. Chantal has an eye for making things comfortable and pleasing. I’m very excited to watch the house progress toward completion.  I can tell you that it will be as nice if not nicer than the apartments at La Porte Bleue. 

The location is amazing with ample parking nearby, very little pedestrian traffic, and no street traffic. It takes less than 5 minutes to walk to the entrance of Le Clos Lucé.  The town is a short walk down the main tourist street. I plan on spending many days in the quiet courtyard of the house sipping wine from our troglo and getting to know the Loire Valley even better. Don’t worry, I’ll do that during the low seasons!
